Running Accomplishments:

I have only done a few races.  I acutally ran in the Steamboat Classic 4 miles and the Histio Heros 5K.  I have walked in a few 5ks.  Not very much, but thats what the future is for right?

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Disney 1/2 marathon
  • Triathalon
  • Become healthier

Long-Term Running Goals:

Im not really interested in competing in a marathon, however would be very open to doing the Disney Half.  I would consider the full marathon i guess..... :)  I just would like to be healthy my whole life!

Personal:

I am not married, however i do have a wonderful, supportive boyfriend that i hope to be able to call my husband one day.  I do not have any children, however, my boyfriend and i do have  a cat that we refer to as our "fur baby".  I am the assistant director of a before and after school program and so sometimes i feel like i have about 36 children.  Luckily i can send them home at the end of the day!  I am beginning to enjoy being more active and i do like to ride my single speed bike!  I also enjoy dancing (ballet classes soon!) and swimming, vacationing is also at the tops of my list.

okay, im going to go out to run in a few minutes.  I just hate the way my running shorts bunch up around my crotch.  Im kinda self concious when i run like people are thinking that im a lost cause.  I dont know why i think that.  Im not ugly, im not horribly over weight.  Its just my brain thinking negatively.  I better just unplug my ipod, strap on my shoes, and enjoy my 30 minutes outside.  Ill update when i come back!

K, i ran about an hour ago...it went well.  I ran as much as i wanted to today but i did have 2 small extra walking breaks.  My legs just feel like balls of tense muscles.  I dont know what thats all about.  I was pleased with how i did.  I think i just need to find another place to run cause my neightborhood is getting kinda old.  Till next time!

I know the feeling. I'll see faster runners passing me and start get self conscious, but who cares what other people think! Especially if your worried about the people in cars driving by. Just remember you're out there doing it for you and they probably envy you that. Better to start building slowly than get discouraged trying to do what you're not ready for. Keep up the good work :)

Welcome to the blog!

Irrational negative thoughts happen to runners of all levels. One time I was in the lead of a marathon, had 7 minutes on the next guy, and hit the wall at mile 22 slowing down to 7:10 pace. When it happened I thought to myself - I am just not made to run marathons! And then I thought, and I am too slow to run halves, and we are not even going to talk about the 10 K! Things just could not be any worse.

For your training - if you have trained inconsistently you will see a dramatic improvement in all of your races 5 K and up by building an aerobic base. Get out 6 days a week and jog a couple of miles at a comfortable pace. The key is not to skip days, and I cannot possibly say too much about it. The reason only 3% instead 50% of the runners who enter a marathon do not qualify for Boston is in not in the lack of ability, or lack of some magic training plan, but instead in skipping training days.

Increase the daily mileage as you get used to the trailing volume and race occasionally to test your fitness.

Welcome to the blog. Cute picture! :o) I'm self conscience too. Like Sasha, I think everyone is. I run in 3/4 pants. They kinda look like yoga pants. I picked them over shorts because I *was* afraid of the bunching in the crotch thing. So not attractive or comfortable.

I like your goals! Keep it up, and I know you'll be able to make them. Your third goal is a give in if you do the first and second one. I love that.

Welcome to the blog.

Hey, I totally believe what you said in an earlier entry. You were talking about your body and you said that you "have to re-train it." Remember that when your "legs just feel like balls of tense muscles." You are re-training your body, your body will rebel, but it is a short lived rebellion if you keep trying!

:-)

Hey, welcome to the blog! You should try s running skirt---no one can see the bunching! But really, no one is looking---we just think they are!

Good luck to you in your training!
